THRIVE Mozzarella Cheese

I got the can of Mozzarella specifically to have on hand for making homemade pizza. Since the cheese is quite pricey, It took me a while to get to open it, but I have a party coming up next week where I am going to make a spinach artichoke dip and I wanted to use the mozzarella, so I figured I better try it on something easier first!

I covered about 1 cup of the cheese with a little bit of water and let it sit while I was getting the pizza crust and sauce ready. I then drained off the water in a fine strainer, and then layed the cheese on a paper towel lined plate...just to soak up a little more of the water. When it was time to sprinkle the cheese on the pizza, I was soooo impressed! It was so cool how normal it looked! First off, it looks just like shredded mozzarella in the can...only a little crunchy...but it is tasty that way too! It sprinkled onto the pizza beautifully! I had heard a comment on facebook about the cheese melting really well straight from the can without being rehydrated, so I sprinkled a little bit more on top to find out how that worked.

Well, it didn't. It burned crispy! The cheese that had been rehydrated melted wonderfully, and looked and tasted just like mozzarella. So, don't put non rehydrated cheese on your pizza. Lesson learned! Maybe if you were to microwave it or something? I might have to try that another time.

Sour Cream Powder

I have been wanting to try something using the sour cream powder, but hadn't figured out exactly what. I really wanted to make a dip or something to showcase it at a party. Tonight I made homemade pizza for dinner, using the THRIVE mozzarella, and I had some cut up veggies on the side. At the last minute I decided to try making a ranch dip for the veggies using the sour cream powder. It was so easy and really yummy! I just mixed up 1/2 cup sour cream powder with 1/4 cup water, and then added the Hidden Valley ranch dry dip mix. I think the sour cream mixture thickens up as it sits,so I ended up adding in some heavy cream, and milk to thin it out a bit more. This would be a fantastic way to show people how to mix up the powder, what it looks like reconstituted, and then how to dress it up and make it into a super easy veggie dip! I seriously LOVE the convenience and ease of using THRIVE in my everyday cooking. Awesome!
